Corneal scarring takes place on the front surface of the eye, called the cornea. If the cornea is damaged or scarred, it can lead to decreased vision, which is not correctable with standard glasses or contact lenses. Patients suffering from corneal scarring may benefit from specialty contact lenses. Specialty contact lenses are custom fit contact lenses – many patients wearing these lenses are able to achieve vision they once had before the scarring!
Causes of corneal scarring include:
- Herpes scarring from a prior herpes outbreak episode on the eye
- Trauma
- Corneal ulcers
- Advanced keratoconus
- Fuch’s dystrophy
